Earth Day is coming up on April 22, and even though it is not a religious holiday of any kind it is a holiday that is important to focus on with our children.

God gave us this beautiful Earth to be our home before we dwell with Him for eternity. He has instructed us to care for it.

In Genesis 2:15 it says
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

This was His intention for us from the very beginning. This intention did not change when we were banished from the Garden of Eden. He asks us to tend to the land He gave us. We must teach our children to take care of everything that God has given them, this includes our planet and the animals and plants that grow on it.

Earth Day is also a time to celebrate God as our creator. It’s a time for us to look around and reflect on the surrounding beauty  around us, in which He has given us.

The bounty that God gives us in anything all things is a reflection ofn our hard work and the blessings He wants to give and replenish to us.
Above is an awkward sentence, even with my edits
Our children watch us for guidance, littering and abusing the environment is a learned trait. To better our ecosystem we must first show the future generations how to take care of it.

It is important to take the time to talk about why our Planet is so amazing. Teach them about how God wants us to take care of what He gives us including our bodies.

My children and I do a lot of fun Earth Day activities here are some your children may enjoy.

Earth Day Games-

Make litter bugs out of recyclable material and attach magnets to them, then attach magnets to sticks, have your children use their sticks to pick up all of the litter bugs.

Make a game out of your children recognizing when they have recyclables. If they remind you to recycle they get a point or a token.

Have them recycle-
Allow them to recycle cans if applicable in your state. My mom used to let us and allowed us to keep the money from it.

Make fun crafts-
There are so many Earth Day related crafts you can enjoy making with your children. A few that we have done are bird houses out of plastic water jugs. cCut a square out in the jug for the door, put a perch in the center with a stick or wooden rod and hang them with string. We put cute windows with borders around ours with wood.
Make bottle cap magnets for your refrigerator, glue magnets to the back of bottle caps after your child has decorated or painted them.
Use egg cartons to make bugs. Cut the egg carton into pieces and have your children make bugs or animals out of them by painting them and adding legs with pipe cleaners.

Make your own play dough and have them make an Earth out of it, after it dries have them paint it. Talk to them about how God molded the Earth from his own hands and took great care in making it the perfect environment for us to live in.

Plant a garden-
Make a garden with your children or even a compost pile. Having them have fun andwhile getting their hands dirty is a excellent way to teach them how to replenish and take care of the Earth. Let them choose the design and plants they want to grow and instruct them how to take care of them. This will teach them not only responsibility by taking care of something but a social responsibility as well (explain how it teaches social responsibility?).

God gave us this Earth as our heritage to love and cherish. It is so fundamental to engage our children in caring for itthe earth as God asks us to care for ia and all He gifts us with.

What kinds of ways do you celebrate the Earth God gave us, not only on Earth Day but all year?
